- Today’s Gospel is characterized by two strong reactions of amazement. The first amazement is in the townspeople who thought they knew Jesus well because he grew up with them. Their astonishment, however, is a negative one: a local craftsman as a prophet with a divine commission is simply not believable to them. The second amazement comes from Jesus. He is “amazed” at their lack of trust in him and his message. Without their openness to the Spirit working in him, Jesus “could do no deed of power there.”
- What amazes you about Jesus?
- Is Jesus able to work any signs of amazement among us or is he amazed at our lack of faith?
- Have you ever felt, or do you know someone who has felt, like a prophet, unrecognized in your hometown?(Reflection: Diocese of Saskatoon)
For 14th to 17th Sunday in Ordinary time Weekly reflections, visit: Diocese of Saskatoon | Sunday Connections | Vocations Seed for Year B | Vatican News
